Meet Mrs. Gisi

A little bit about me...

My name is Barbara Gisi.  I am originally from Arizona.   I moved to Corpus Christi in May 2019 when my husband retired from the Army.  I started my path in education when my children started school in 1998, by volunteering all my time at their schools.  I then decided to get my Bachelors in Business Administration specializing in Healthcare Management, while doing this I substituted in all grades.  After receiving my degree I realized that my heart is in education, so I went back to school for my Masters in Early Childhood.  I prayed for God to show me where my path is, and found myself in Catholic Schools.

What happens in the classroom...

I teach third and fourth grade at OLPHA.  God is present throughout the day through our daily prayers.  We have a full day schedule that consists of all subjects.  I incorporate a lot of hands-on activities, projects, and experiments to make learning a fun experience and memory.

In third and fourth we have a social contract that we made together and signed.  We also use positive reinforcement to encourage students to stay on task and to become disciples of God.  We use angel bucks, and the random prize box.  Students are encouraged to help each other where needed, to use kind words, and to be positive.  Students are encouraged and expected to do their best academically and socially.

I also sponsor the OLPHA dance team, journalism, art club after school and tutoring where needed.  These after school activities help the student grow as an individual and as a community.

What technology do I use...

I believe that Google classroom has been beneficial to the students and the teachers.  It is a tool that allows teaching and learning to continue regardless of unforeseen circumstances.  It also assists teachers and students to keep up with technologies that are ever evolving.

What is my biggest classroom philosophy...

Open communication is important.  I make sure that my students and families know that I am available and willing to assist where needed.  You can reach me through our school, my email, and Group me classroom chat.
